Abstract: | Digital transformation includes all changes associated with the use of digital technologies, which at a minimum support traditional working methods and, at the other extreme, are a completely disruptive element for device manufacturing and service provision. Digital manufacturing can be extremely disruptive, where new technologies and methods change how assistive devices are made, who is involved with the production process, required training and expertise, new device and material standards, and policy changes since borders are no longer obstacles for device fabrication. This presentation will explore the literature on digital manufacturing, whether existing standards are appropriate for new digital processes, and discuss gaps that should be addressed to facilitate the ongoing digital transformation of prosthetics and orthotics. |
